THIRD TRIMESTER HERE WE COME!

Third trimester. You know what that means- we are only 90 days away from our due date and one step closer to holding our baby boy in our arms!

It felt at times this day would never come. People try to prepare you for third trimester with loving yet honest advice. They let you know you'll feel huge, exhausted, and that heartburn and backaches will be attacking at full force. However, no matter how many times you hear about this famous "third trimester" it seems so far away. But here it is, staring me in the face, following through with all the promises the loving ladies in my life have assured me would be coming my way.

One thing I didn't expect was what mixed emotions would be coming with the start of the end of my pregnancy. It feels like such a triumph to have made it this far, yet knowing it's almost over is both terrifying and thrilling at the same time. We are going to have another person living in this house in just a few months! Then again, I am already head-over-heels in love with this little crackerjack that I can hardly wait to see what he looks like, to feel him snuggle into me, even to do the little things like bathe him, dress him, bring him in the house for the first time. I want to push fast forward AND pause at the same time!

This week, Steve and I ordered a few things for Cohen that we're super excited about. First, we got the glider for his room. It is so comfy! I sit in it imagining what it will be like to rock my little man. In it, we put a pillow and blanket that Cohen's Aunt Stephanie made for him.

The next purchase was Steve's favorite. He's been on the search for an old baseball glove for Cohen's room, but hadn't found anything just right until late last week when he came upon this 1940's glove in great condition! It looked great online, but I really got excited once I saw it in person! It's just perfect for the nursery!

Some friends of ours pointed out that Value City Furniture has baseball stuff for boys' rooms, and this week we finally went down to check it out. We found the greatest lamp that looks like it is made out of baseball bats. We can't wait to pick it up Tuesday and put it beside the glider!

We also ran across a baby book, a Mighty Mouse T-Shirt, and a Beatles onesie we snatched up at Target. It is VERY hard not to buy up that whole store with all the excitement we have waiting for Cohen!

We also got some information this week about baby showers! It looks like my family will be hosting something at the end of January and Steve's family is hosting at the end of February. My Covenant Creek girls are also planning something for February or early March. I can't wait!

Also new to the pregnancy...this morning was the first time he kicked me hard enough to wake me out of my sleep. It was about four a.m. It was a serious kick, and it made me laugh. I love feeling him move, even if it did pull me out of sleep! :)

Another first this week was feeling him get the hiccups. For about twenty minutes there was this rhythmic bounce in my belly. Poor baby! It was hard to feel like there was nothing I could do except wait it out. We watched our friends Matt and Kim's little boy Liam get the hiccups last night. He sounded just like a squeaky toy. It was adorable, but we definitely felt for him as his little face scrunched up and he furrowed his brow. Being around Liam makes me feel very impatient...I want to meet our Cohen!

One final update. We have officially signed up for classes at the hospital and even took our first one last week. Infant/Child CPR was the first class we took, and while it was very informative, it was scary at the same time. I just pray we never have to use what we learned in that class. However, we have had a niece who choked a few times, and my sister was always choking on peanut butter and jelly, jelly beans, etc. as a kid, so we definitely know it's a possibility! We definitely feel better that we brushed up on those skills just in case.

Our first Childbirth Preparation class is this week. Wish us (mainly Steve) luck with this one. Our friend Matt's excitement and laughter about Steve having to finally go through this class has me very interested in what we're going to see and learn. :)

Here's how our little man is measuring up this week:

Baby’s Development
At week Twenty-Seven of your pregnancy, your baby should be about 14-1/2 inches and weigh in about 2 pounds. In the last weeks of pregnancy, he will gain ½ a pound per week. His skin is wrinkled only because he has been surrounded by water for the last 5 months. His skin will look wrinkled until at least a few weeks after he's born. The skin will stretch out and will look and feel smooth.
His retina’s are developing at a good pace, and they will soon be able to help him adjust to light images. These layers are considered to help his brain receive light and some images as well as be able to transmit him the information of what he is seeing to his brain. The membranes that have been covering his eyes will start to separate, and in a few weeks he'll be able to open his eyes.
As everyone knows all baby’s eyes are blue when they are born. If the eye color is going to change to another color they will do so a few weeks after birth. At this week in pregnancy he will continue to begin his own sleeping and waking patterns. You will soon see that his sleeping patterns are opposite as yours. Most of the time you feel him kick when you are trying to get some sleep.
It has been said that babies start to dream while in the womb. The brain is still active and the grooves on the surface of the brain will begin appearing as the brain tissues start to develop. You will also notice him hiccuping more and more because his lungs are maturing and practicing breathing.
And here is how Momma and Cohen are measuring up on the outside =)

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
